GD&T

Engineering + Design+ Fabrication

I started learning mechanical drafting and tolerancing my sophomore year in college in my two CAD courses; one of which required me to design and manufacture a product. I was drawn to the machine shop and spending extra time there helped me learn directly from machinists what was expected out of a part drawing in order to get it manufactured properly. I started learning the basics of tolerancing and how to utilize the machinists handbook.

My understanding of proper drafting and tolerancing grew exponentially when I started designing fixtures and gauges for tightly toleranced parts at my Co-op with the jet engine manufacturing company. I regularly worked with GE and Rolls Royce jet engine component part drawings and was able to not only see the products of professional drafters at large companies for highly controlled dimensions, but I was also able to emulate and become one of the most sought out GD&T resources throughout my college.
